Dear Iyanna: Valentine’s Day Edition

Dear Iyanna,

For a while, I’ve really been wanting to be in a relationship. And now that Valentine’s Day is coming up, that feeling has only been growing. I know no one is going to ask me out anytime soon, what do I do?

Sincerely,

A hopeless romantic

I get it. You’re growing older and romance is starting to become more important than the cooties. I too see the appeal in relationships. But your time will come soon enough so don’t be in a rush to grow up and stay focused on school. Chances are your first romantic relationship will be over way before you’re finished with school. With that said, it’s still a part of growing up so don’t give up so easily, you never know what’ll happen.

Dear Iyanna,

I have had a crush on a friend of mine for a bit and I wanna tell them on Valentine’s Day. How should I go about it?

Sincerely,

Smitten

Well for starters, fake it till you make it. You may feel a bit awkward, but it’s a good idea to seem confident. Confidence will help show that no matter what happens nothing ever has to be weird between the both of you. Also here’s the cheesy yet wise advice: Be yourself, they’re your friend because they like you not whoever you pretend to be. And remember, if it doesn’t turn out perfectly the way you want it, it’s not the end of the world.

Dear Iyanna,

I really really like this person, but I know they already like someone else. I’m not sure what to do.

Sincerely,

An ill-fated lover

There’s nothing you can do except get over them, unless you have a love potion. But they are very rare and expensive to make… Anyway, it may not feel great at first, but eventually the feelings will fade away and you’ll be fine and ready to jump back in that saddle. Keep on keepin on!
