Breaker Boys Shine in Soccer Season

By Ravi Koyen

The Bradley Beach boys soccer team has made a comeback! This season was special because it was one of our best seasons. We secured fifth place, and, at one point, we were in second place for a few weeks. For the past two years, the team had not won any games, but this year we won four! We finished the year with a 4 and 4 record.

At halftime, the first game of the season against Lavallette, the boys were tied 1-1. They went on to score five straight goals, winning 6-1. The next game was against Neptune City. It was a really close game, the boys winning 3-2, going into overtime. The team celebrated so energetically on the bus ride back.

The team consisted of five sixth graders, four seventh graders, and five eighth graders. The coach is Mr. Pulcine, who is also the new PE teacher. What the coach would always say at the games and practices, and when our team was in doubt, was, “Let’s do what we do best and be aggressive!”

The game moment with the most suspense was definitely when we were tied with Neptune City with a little less than five minutes on the clock. Jared Walker, a sixth grader, scored the winning goal, giving Bradley a 3-2 victory on September 26. Jared also scored multiple hat tricks against Avon and Sea Girt. Another standout player is Brandon Victoria-Angel, who scored a goal against H.W. Mountz off a free kick and scored two headers against Bay Head.

The team’s hardest game was probably against Sea Girt, as they had a lot of skilled players. However, we had a very good comeback, scoring three goals in the second half. Unfortunately, we still lost 6-3.

The team will lose some key players to high school next year, but there are many who will be back. Along with Jared are Keno Stewart, Alex Rojas-Quiroz, Gael Reyes Ruiz, and me (Ravi Koyen), all seventh-grade starters who will take on a leadership role next year, Mr. P said. The sixth graders who started are Dylan Ruiz Garcia, Zareth Montoya Merino, Jeremy Rodriguez Toruno, and Joshua Roa Mancilla, who now have more experience for next year. So, even with saying goodbye to five eighth graders who all played prominent roles, next year’s Breakers are heading in the right direction for another successful season.

Epic Season for Breakers Girls

By Nora Weber

This year’s soccer season was one of our best in recent memory, with a final record of 5-3-1. We won five games, lost three, and ended one in a tie. The tie came against H.W. Mountz, a team we hadn’t beaten in years. Going into the match, we knew we had a real chance of coming out on top.

Early on in the game against H.W. Mountz, Kayley Kremen scored our first goal within the first 10 minutes. We erupted in excitement, celebrating with high-fives and cheering. Our confidence soared, and we felt sure we could win. But just before half-time, with only a few minutes left, the opposing team scored, bringing the game to a 1-1 tie.

After the break, and a pep talk from Coach Courtney Hammell, we returned to the field determined to retake the lead. Kayley, once again, made an incredible play, dribbling past several defenders and getting into a perfect position to shoot. She fired, and the ball hit the back of the net! We celebrated, but we knew we still had work to do. We quickly shifted our focus to defense, determined to hold onto our lead.

Unfortunately, with just 10 minutes left in the game, one of the H.W. Mountz players made a strong run down the field, evading our defenders and taking a shot. Our goalie made an initial save, but the ball slipped through her hands, and Mountz ran through her, scoring to tie the game once again. Both teams gave it their all in the final minutes, but neither could find a winning goal. The game went into overtime, but despite our best efforts, the score remained tied. In the end, we left the field feeling annoyed that we didn’t win, but proud of our hard-fought effort.

While our games were exciting and full of highs and lows, I think the best part of the season was the bus rides. We had a blast on the way to every game, with Kamila Stewart keeping the energy high with some great hype music. Even when we lost, we always kept our spirits up. The good times and fun we shared off the field were just as memorable as any win or loss.

This season may not have ended with a perfect record, but it was undoubtedly one of our best in years. We learned, we grew, and we had a lot of fun along the way.

Girls’ Soccer Season Shines

By Emely Herrera-Montoya and Mairelys Ramirez Montoya

With five wins and seven losses, it was a great season for the girls’ soccer team under coaches Morgan Maclearie and Courtney Hammell. One highlight of the season came in a game against HW Mountz (the undefeated team) in our league. It was 3-2 and it was a tough game as we only lost by one goal. Marielys Ramirez scored one goal and Ella Minsky came with the second goal!

There were 15 girls on the team. In eighth grade were Claire Cooperman, Jackie Niece, Ella Minsky, Nora Gregory, Genesis Pimentel, Lizbeth Quiroz, and Celian Torres.

“It’s going to be a huge loss next year without our eighth-graders,” said Miss Maclearie. “Most have played for us since fifth grade! The younger players have some big shoes to fill once they graduate.” Read more
