Everyone has heard Fortnite. It is everywhere — on the computer, in stores, and even on TV. But did you know there is a new game that is growing every day? Some say it may dethrone the recent game king, Fortnite.

This game is called Apex Legends. Apex Legends is a free “battle royale” game developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts, also known as EA. It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on February 4, 2019. There was no announcement of the game, so the release of it shocked a lot of people. There hasn’t been much advertising for this game, so it’s really surprising how well it’s doing.

Now, let’s get into more of what this game is like. Similar to games like Fortnite and PUBG, Apex Legends is a battle royale game, meaning it blends the survival, exploration and scavenging elements of a survival game with last-man-standing gameplay.  Unlike its contender, Fortnite, Apex Legends is a first-person shooter game, this means you are in the view of the character. Fortnite is a third-person game, meaning you can see your own character.

After only a month of Apex Legends being out, it already has 50 million players. It took Fortnite over five months to accomplish what apex has done in one month. At this growth, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Apex Legends pass Fortnite in the near future. In the game, you have a choice of eight different characters, all of which have different abilities. One character can even turn invisible. With so many different powers, the game style is always changing. The game has also brought in many different features to the gaming world. For example, in Apex Legends, if your teammate gets eliminated, you can respawn them by collecting their respawn card. Then you bring the card to a respawn beacon and they are back alive! Fortnite recently took this idea and added a respawn van to their game.

Every year, there is a gaming convention called e3. This year, people think that some big things could be in store for the game. I can’t wait to see what the company has planned for the game. If you haven’t already, you can download the game for free. From all the reviews and statistics, it’s a very good game and it’s worth checking out.
