Cheerleaders Bring It

This year’s cheerleading team is the biggest team in five years, consisting of 19 students, with five captains!

The team is doing an outstanding job of spreading the school spirit. They were invited to the Monmouth County Athletic League’s exhibition at Manasquan High School for the fifth consecutive year on February 27.

With a big team comes great cheers,  and even a new one: “The Welcome Cheer” is a new cheer revamped to make it more relevant, said Mrs. Alisyn Morder, the cheerleading coach. Read more

The Young YouTubers of BBES

Surfing, trap music, and video games are some of the specialities of the young YouTubers of BBES. In this article, find out about three of our up and coming YouTubers, and get their links.

First check out “DEVIN WIGGINS,” the channel made by eighth grader — you guessed it — Devin Wiggins. It focuses on trap music, which is a hip hop music sub-genre that originated during the 1990s in the South. Devin, who takes his music career very seriously, loves the art form, and has always enjoyed music. He has been making and singing songs ever since he was a little boy. His music varies from a calm, slow tune to a fast-paced, heart-racing beat. His YouTube channel, which currently has 10 subscribers, consists of 34 videos that I really suggest you go check out. His songs are all original and were made using the Soundtrap app. Devin has always said that if you keep trying, all of that work will pay off.  All in all, Devin’s YouTube channel is really great if you want to listen to a diverse collection of songs. Graphic Novel Project Brings Teaching Artist to the School

In most schools, students get in trouble for doodling in language arts class, but in eighth grade here at BBES, you get in trouble if you don’t, according to our resident teaching artist Kevin C. Pyle.

Mr. Pyle is here at BBES to help eighth graders write and illustrate a series of original graphic novels. The project, a collaboration between our art, Spanish, and language arts departments, is being funded by a grant from the Artists in Education Grant, a project of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and Young Audiences New Jersey & Eastern Pennsylvania. BBES was one of 11 schools in the state to receive the grant this year.

Students will present their work at an event at the school this spring.

Mr. Liebmann is Leaving

Supervisor of Curriculum Michael Liebmann announced on Tuesday that he will be leaving BBES in February to take a job as director of personnel in the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School district. Mr. Liebmann, a former language arts teacher, has been here at BBES for three and a half years. The search for his replacement will begin soon.

“My time working at Bradley Beach Elementary has been inspiring,” Mr. Liebmann said. “Every day I’m impressed by the talent and dedication of our teachers and the success of our students.”

Mr. Liebmann is pictured above with his family at the Matawan-Aberdeen Board of Education meeting where his hiring was approved. On the right is Matawan-Aberdeen Superintendent Jay Majka, formerly our principal and superintendent here at BBES.

Mr. Liebmann, we will miss you!

Meet Our New Staff

The school hired five new teachers this year: Mrs. Nancy Merkelbach in pre-school; Ms. Ashley Gianfrancesco in middle school math and computers; instructional aides Mrs. Risa Nardone and Mr. Andrew Robinson; and Mrs. Sonali Khatri, an occupational therapist. Read more

Real-Life Coding

In technology class, the students of 7S applied what they were learning about coding on the computer to cup stacking.  On December 14th, the students worked in small groups and took turns being the programmers and robots.  The programmers wrote an algorithm to program their “robot” to create a cup tower of their choice.  The robot tried to recreate the cup tower using only the programmers’ code and debugged it to fix any mistakes, if necessary.  The students challenged themselves by using loops to create the tallest tower possible with the least amount of steps.

Beauty and the Beast: a classic tale where the moral of don’t judge a book by its cover comes into play. Belle is a bright young women who is taken prisoner by a beast. She finds that the castle is bewitched and almost every item is enchanted. Despite her worries, she befriends the mysterious staff. Through friendship, Belle learns to look beyond the Beast’s exterior and discovers the kind heart, and the caring soul of the true prince within.

The new action film version of the classic Disney story, starring Emma Watson, and Dan Stevens, brings the romance. the fear, and the magic to life. The movie was directed by Bill Condon, and was released on the 17th of May. It made its appearance on Netflix on September 19th of 2017. Read more
