During a pandemic, art class can be very challenging and different, but Mrs. Dizefalo never fails to make class fun. This year, grades five through eight are eligible to enter a contest to design an image for the Bradley Beach Shade Tree Commission’s promotional items.
Middle School students are drawing trees and/or leaves to represent the Bradley Beach Shade Tree Commission. The winner of the contest will get their drawing design printed onto tote bags for the community. I got the chance to interview Summer Deaver, one of the organizers of the Bradley Beach Shade Tree Commission, who came up with the idea for the contest, via email. These were her responses:

Each morning at 8:35 a.m., teachers and administrators come out and take students’ temperatures before we enter the school building. We stand in circles painted on the playground six feet apart, near the rest of our homeroom class. We wear masks. If it rains or it is too cold, they take our temperatures at the door.
Inside, we sit behind plastic desk shields, keep social distance, and remain with our homeroom classes all day. We do not use lockers. The gym and the playground are empty, except for when they are used for 10-minute mask breaks. There are no class trips (including the Eighth Grade Washington trip), no assemblies, no sports, and only virtual clubs.
The virus COVID-19, which was first reported in early January 2020, has not only affected the USA but the world. It has taken the lives of 1.9 million people globally, about 360,000 in the United States. Due to this pandemic, unfortunately, some adults have lost their jobs, which lead to losing their homes. In the week of April 12-18 2020, about 4.4 million people were unemployed.
Here at BBES, the pandemic has transformed school in many different ways.

Applying to high school can be a very stressful time for many eighth graders. Out of last year’s BBES graduating class, 12 students went to Red Bank Regional, 10 went to Neptune High School, four went to Monmouth County Vocational School District, and three moved out of district. With the many options provided for BBES students, how do we know which school to choose? I had the opportunity to talk with three former BBES eight graders: Noah Jamieson, Henry Leyva, and Bram Hofsess. They told me how their high school experience has been so far and what things incoming freshmen can expect.

At Bradley Beach Elementary School you may have heard that fourth graders and kindergarteners got the chance to learn Latin dance with visiting artist Mr. Marck “Flaco” Best.
We focused on two dances, the merengue and the bachata. We got a chance to dance with all different partners throughout the lessons.
“Some of the underlying skills students were learning were: learning how to work with a partner, respect, timing, patience, learning that mistakes are okay, and of course listening skills,” said our teacher, Ms. Goldsworthy.
It was pretty fun. For example, if someone got a question about dance correct, like Myles Stewart in 4G, Mr. Flaco would give him three high fives. It was very interesting and somehow felt rewarding.

VR is a Reality

Fads come and go, but VR is still here. And now, in this time of quarantine, it is bigger than ever.
A virtual reality headset (or VR) is a device that has two lenses that play the same picture, one for the left eye and one for the right, to project a virtual world you can interact in with two hand controllers.
In March 2016 The Oculus Rift was launched. Ever since the commercial launch of the Vive and Rift, VR has advanced more than ever, which is a good thing since before, in the gaming industry, VR was just a synonym for a commercial flop. Examples are the Nintendo Virtual Boy in 1995 and Sega’s VR project that was dropped around the initial release, the Sega VR. Read more
Watch the BBES Morning Show Here!
School news, trends, science experiments, interviews, and bloopers are some of the highlights of this year’s hottest new show: The BBES Morning Show.
Created by a group of seventh-grade students in G&T, the videos are between two and a half and six minutes long. The students — Nora Bonnell, Brandon Juarez, Dyllon Varcadipane, and Amelia Maffet — developed the content, filmed the shows, and then edited the videos using the online app Wevideo.
